Information For Schools

Find out more about Music Heroes for your school

We appreciate that schools are very busy places and teachers/support staff are very busy people! At Music Heroes, we manage all of the administration ourselves.  In most cases, parents pay privately for lessons and we send out invoices at the beginning of each half term.  Where pupil premium funding is available, we invoice the school instead. Time-tabling, communication with parents, invoicing  exam entry is all done by us.

In the first instance, we can offer either a free demonstration assembly or a day of free taster lessons to each child who expresses an interest. We find the demonstration assembly to be highly effective in recruiting young musicians. We perform an interactive, mini-gig playing age appropriate pop songs whilst introducing the team and the instruments available.

After the demonstration, students are invited to take a letter home with details of our service and information on how to sign up and we take it from there!

Once we have confirmation from the parent/student, they are provided with full terms and conditions and access to the ‘My Music’ Portal. Here parents can check lesson notes, record practise and check their account. Parents/students are sent an email containing lesson notes after each lesson so parents are fully informed as to what has been covered in the lesson and what needs to be practised at home.

The format of lessons will depend upon the instrument. Piano is taught on a one to one basis. Don’t worry if your school doesn’t have a piano or drum kit as we have portable digital pianos and drum kits! Guitar and woodwind instruments can be taught on a one to one basis but also work well in small groups. The maximum group size is 4 and we would try to group according to age and ability further down the line.

Live Performances in Schools

During the school year we are able to assist with music performances.

This could be in the form of assemblies where students are invited to perform for their classmates and/or parents or perhaps a more formal concert.

We can provide the professional support you need for live performances.

We believe that all young musicians should be given the opportunity to perform and we relish any opportunity to showcase our students’ progress.

Whole Class Tuition

Many of the schools we visit for peripatetic tuition also engage us for whole-class instrument tuition. Since the publication of the National Plan for Music Education (both in England and Wales) in 2022, we have found many more schools are signing up for this service. We offer whole class tuition in ukulele and woodwind (recorder, toot and dood). Students learn the basics of the instrument whilst also developing a practical understanding of pitch, rhythm, genre and much more!

Some of our schools have been having weekly visits for several years, while some opt for a 10 week block once a year.  Please contact us with your requirements and we can provide a bespoke quote.

Here’s what one headteacher had to say about James’ whole class ukulele tuition:

I would like to pass on to you, how pleased we are with the rapport that James has built up with our class during the past term.  The lesson this morning was exemplary – with great interaction between James and the class, a real bond has developed.  We are very much looking forward to working with James further in the new term”
